RoboSense E2 is a fully solid-state LiDAR for robotic perception and spatial data capture. A SPAD-SoC receiver and 2D VCSEL emitter use electronic scanning, with no internal moving scanning parts.

The current E2 platform combines a published maximum 180° × 135° field of view with a range of up to 35 m at 10% target reflectivity. Its compact dual-optical-window design is intended for robots that need observations of nearby objects and the surrounding environment.

E2 supplies point-cloud measurements for a host-based perception system. Navigation, mapping and obstacle-response behavior depend on the host computer, application software, calibration and installation. Choose the hardware revision and operating mode around the coverage and update requirements of your project.

Features

  • Fully solid-state scanning. Electronic scanning avoids an internal rotating scanning mechanism and supports compact robotic integration.
  • Wide-angle scene coverage. The manufacturer lists a maximum horizontal-by-vertical FoV of 180° × 135°. Confirm the selected revision and mode for the required coverage.
  • Low-reflectivity ranging. The published range reaches 35 m at 10% reflectivity; target geometry and operating conditions still affect usable observations.
  • Fine angular sampling. The best listed angular resolution is 0.375° × 0.375°. This describes sampling direction, not object-recognition accuracy.
  • Published precision. The best listed precision is 1 cm at 1σ. It is a statistical specification, not an unconditional maximum error for every point.
  • Dual-return output. Point-cloud output is specified up to 1,500,000 points/s in dual-return operation; usable returns depend on the selected mode and scene.
  • Low typical power. Typical operating power is no greater than 5 W. Supply voltage, wiring and thermal requirements must be matched to the specific unit.
  • Robotic integration. Official demonstrations cover humanoids, quadrupeds, lawn mowers, spatial data acquisition and drone applications. System-level functions require integration and validation.

E2 Official Product Introduction — English

Applications

Official RoboSense E2 humanoid robot application animation

Humanoid robot perception

Integrate spatial observations into a humanoid robot perception pipeline. Mounting, field-of-view coverage and host algorithms determine how the observations are used.

Official RoboSense E2 quadruped robot application animation

Quadruped robot perception

Provide point-cloud input for a mobile platform, then validate occlusion, vibration, timing and sensor placement throughout the intended motion.

E2 Robotic Lawn-Mower Application

Gather depth observations around a lawn mower for host-based navigation and obstacle sensing. The complete robot requires its own control strategy and validation.

Spatial data acquisition

Record point clouds for mapping experiments, perception development and sensor fusion, with synchronization and calibration appropriate to the other sensors.

Drone development

Evaluate E2 within the aircraft power, mass, thermal and mounting constraints before flight. Sensing data alone does not establish autonomous flight capability.

Integration Notes

Electrical and mechanical planning

Match the electrical interface, supply, pinout, dimensions, sealing and mounting requirements to the exact E2 hardware revision. Do not apply E1, E1R or another LiDAR model’s wiring or protection rating to E2.

Software and data pipeline

Obtain the E2-specific interface and software package for the supplied revision. Do not assume that a driver for another RoboSense model supports E2. Start by validating communication and point-cloud capture, then add calibration, perception and control software for the application.

FAQ

What type of LiDAR is E2?

E2 uses fully solid-state electronic scanning, a SPAD-SoC receiver and a 2D VCSEL emitter. It does not have an internal rotating scanning mechanism.

What field of view does E2 provide?

The current official E2 page lists a maximum 180° × 135° horizontal-by-vertical FoV. The supplied hardware revision and operating mode must support the coverage required for your project.

What range is specified for low-reflectivity targets?

Up to 35 m at 10% target reflectivity. This is not a guarantee of 35 m on every object; reflectivity, geometry and operating conditions affect the result.

Does 1 cm precision mean every point is within 1 cm?

No. The best published precision is 1 cm at 1σ, a statistical specification. It does not establish an unconditional worst-case error across all modes, targets and distances.

Can all maximum specifications be used at the same time?

Do not assume so. The maximum FoV, finest angular resolution and highest output rate are platform capabilities; obtain the supported combination for the selected revision and mode.

What point-cloud output rate is listed?

The manufacturer lists up to 1,500,000 points/s in dual-return operation. Dual returns describe possible range observations and do not guarantee the maximum number of useful points in every scene.

What power and temperature figures are published?

Typical operating power is no greater than 5 W, and the operating temperature range is -40 to +85 °C. These do not replace the specific supply, pinout, mounting and thermal requirements.

Can an E1 or E1R driver and cable be used?

Compatibility must be established specifically for E2 and its revision. Verify the correct electrical interface and obtain the E2 software package before choosing a driver, cable or host platform.

Does E2 perform navigation by itself?

E2 is a sensing device. Navigation, mapping and obstacle response require suitable computing, algorithms, calibration and complete-system validation.

What is included in this listing?

The packing list contains one RoboSense E2 LiDAR sensor. Match any required interface hardware, connection cables, power supply and mounting components to your integration plan; they are not listed as included items.
